.edu domains should certainly be recognized as academic email addresses. My only thought is that you either might not have your email correctly entered into Github, or you may have your emails set to private within Github, which may prevent ROSIE from verifying it. See the page https://github.com/settings/emails (while logged in to Github) to check your Github email settings.
